The Cricket Group publishes the best magazines for children, November 23, 2003

Queenoid (Greenwood Village, CO USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Ladybug (Magazine)

I love these magazines. We subscribe to Ladybug, Spider, and Cricket (each for a different child). The stories are great, as is the illustration. An illustrator friend of mine says that it is very prestigious to be asked to illustrate a story in these magazines, and I figure it is the same for the stories. No advertising, of course. The thing I like the best is that each magazine is geared toward a certain age of child. Highlights tries to be something for everyone, so we look through the magazine to find an appropriate story. In Ladybug, we just start at the beginning and read straight through. As the publisher will tell you, when your child outgrows Ladybug, you just let them know and they change your subscription to Spider (and later, Cricket. That's as far as we've gotten).

Excellent Children's Magazine, June 21, 2003

Ann - See all my reviews

This review is from: Ladybug (Magazine)

We received this magazine as a gift subscription last December. Beautiful illustrations and interesting short stories with large letters so they are easy for children to read. My daughter (age 4) can read some of them herself, my son (age 3) looks at the words and the pictures and listens to my daughter read and I have even enjoyed reading this magazine from time to time. This is a great children's magazine! I recommend this magazine for children who have just learned to read and for children and parents to read together.

Great Magazine but Be Aware!, March 10, 2007

AS King (USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Ladybug (Magazine)

I LOVE this magazine, and more importantly my four year old daughter LOVES this magazine. I agree with all the other rave reviews on this page.

I do want other parents to be aware of one thing, though. This company sold my daughter's name and address to other companies and we have begun to receive inappropriate consumer catalogs addressed to her. Because no other company has her address, I called the customer service number on the back of Ladybug and spoke to a rep there. Her supervisor called back the next day - very professionally, and quite apologetic, and told me that yes, they did sell/give out my daughter's name and address. She then said she would remove my daughter's name from the list that they share/sell. I appreciated the call and the admission, however, I thought other parents might want to be aware of this.

A Fantastic Way to Know Los Angeles, February 26, 2002

Donna Grayson "Donna G. Grayson" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Los Angeles Magazine (Magazine)

Los Angeles Magazine has a variety of information for everyone. Some of the stores, fashions, etc... might run on the high end price-wise (especially the paid advertisements). But the magazine always offers a great overview of what is going on in Los Angeles. Covering News, Politics, Celebrities, Fashion, Food and Fun things to do. The best issue is the Annual Restaurant issue - this is not to be missed. Restaurants in every price range are listed. Besides the "Dining Out" monthly section, there is "The Top Ten" - plays, music, museums and more to do that month. This magazine is a great way to get to know Los Angeles.

Magazine is great - but this Subscription service is terrible, May 20, 2009

Mineable (CA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Los Angeles Magazine (Magazine)

The Los Angeles Magazine is great and I love reading it, but this Subscription Service is terrible.

I purchased my Los Angeles Magazine Subscription here through Amazon. My first two issues, March and April, arrived promptly. However, it was May 1 and I did not receive my May issue yet, and I noticed it was already on sale on newsstands and people at the UCLA Book Festival had already received it.

I called up the Subscription service number, and the woman told me as a Subscriber, the post office would deliver my May Issue on May 17, even if the issue was already on sale.

That is baffling. As a Subscriber to other magazines, I usually receive my issues before or at the same time as newsstands.

Unless you like receiving you Magazine three weeks late and when the month is almost over, I would not advise you signing up with this Subscription Service through Amazon.

It is now May 19, and I still have not received my May Issue. After... Read more

Overall it's pretty good, but there's a lot of repetition :-l, January 7, 2007

Little Miss Cutey (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Los Angeles Magazine (Magazine)

Being that LA is my favourite city anywhere, I used to always buy this at my local Borders (until they decided to no longer keep this and keep instead a thousand magazines on stitchcraft or fishing etc). Now I always look forward to picking up a couple of copies when in America. However, I find that between trips, it's only the articles that change. They still review and list the same restuarants and don't change them up as much as they probably could/should.

I do love the articles about various people around town or the things going on in the city, but there is too much of the same material in various editions. I don't want to keep reading the same restaurant listings and the same advertising at the back of the magazine all the time. I agree with another reviewer that this isn't as good as the New Yorker.

Yes, another second generation ZooBooks Family!, December 25, 2010

gilly8 "gilly8" (Mars, the hotspot of the U.S.) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Zoobooks (Magazine)

We first ran across a Zoobook magazine in the gift shop section at Smoky Mountains National Park. I bought one for my then six year old younger son. He became so involved in it, and so excited, that when we got home I immediately subscribed, and the subscription continued for quite a few years.

Now he is out of college and working full time...and still has ALL his Zoobooks in a case, sealed up, in my house. That says something, I think, with all the books and magazines my kids were given over the years.

I do NOT know how the current issues are, but am subscribing for my 6 yr old and 4 yr old grandsons, the sons of my elder son. The older boy is currently REALLY into dinosaurs, and I recall with my son's subscription, there were quite a few that covered dinosaurs, as well as current animals, birds and so on.

I know the price is high compared to many other children's magazines out there, but I think it is worth it IF they are what they were... Read more

2nd Generation ZooBooks Lover!, December 18, 2010

K.L.B. (S.F,, Ca) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Zoobooks (Magazine)

As to the price, I just received our renewal notice, and the Amazon price is identical for 1 year, minus the poster and stickers.

To the product, I grew up with ZooBooks and absolutely loved them (still trying to find my three 2 in. binders full in my parents garage); so as soon as my son started reading, we signed him up. Nearing his first year of subscription he loves them just as much as I did.

Now, having read and enjoyed them for years as a child, and now looking at them again as an adult, I must say, I am not sure the quality is now what it was 20 years ago. Until I find my back issues, I can not say for sure, but they do not seem to have as many pages these days. Also, I am pretty sure that 1 year equaled 12 issues, but it seems that the entire magazine industry is going to fewer issues per year to save.

All and all however, this is still a wonderful product for any inquisitive child and I happily give it 5 stars!

Amazon Verified Purchase

This review is from: Zoobooks (Magazine)

No the price at Amazon is the same as at the Zoobooks site, $29.95. It's true you don't get the poster and stickers but I like the convenience of ordering via Amazon and renewals are a snap.

My nephew, who is ten, loves these magazines and that's a good enough recommendation for me.
